Dr. Steven Lytle from Sparrow House Counseling answers the question “Why seek help for porn addiction recovery?”
There is a lie out there that says “I must be really messed up if I need to seek help from a counsellor.” But the fact is that we all need help, support and accountability – a counsellor is able to provide that. A therapist or psychologist is able to talk you through how pornography addiction is affecting you, biologically, emotionally, spiritually and how it’s affecting those around you.
They can also assist in uncovering any psychological underpinnings that are contributing to the abuse. These could include past sexual trauma, feelings of loneliness, depression or anxiety. Most importantly a counsellor can help you develop interventions and behavioural strategies to help you on this road to recovery from sexual addiction.
If you are struggling with porn check out our help page. For a list of counsellors we recommend go to our counsellors page.
